ASPA Hampton Roads Chapter 2012 Student Forum

“Obtaining Employment/The Benefits of Public Service and Internships”

Date and Time: October 27, 2012, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Location: Lambert’s Point Recreation Center, located at 1251 W. 42nd Street Norfolk, VA 23508
Invited participants: Hampton Roads Area Undergraduate and Graduate Students Interested in Jobs and Internships

The session included: an opening plenary session with a keynote address; two different workshops on “Networking” and “Interviewing”; a closing plenary session, featuring a panel of several senior public officials, who responded to questions and answers from attendees and offer closing remarks.

 

ASPA Hampton Roads Luncheon

The General Membership Luncheon Meeting was held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the Holiday Inn Express Norfolk Airport, 1570 North Military Highway, Norfolk.

The featured speaker was Dr. David Mudarri. Dr. Mudarri is devoted to advancing public health through indoor air quality education and the development and promulgation of state-of-the-art process and tools. His discussion concerned this year’s ASPA HR theme of sustainability and efforts to help this effort through sustainable procurement initiatives.

The Hampton Roads Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration held its Annual Public Service Awards Luncheon on Thursday, May 10, 2012.

ASPA Code of Ethics Review

May 16, 2012 at 1 pm ET – ASPA Code of Ethics Review – FREE

ASPA is offering this webinar for free. The first part of this webinar will cover ethical theory and the need for ethics in the public sector. It will then move to ASPA’s code of ethics and its review which was last revised in 1994. What elements of the existing code should be reaffirmed? What new features should be added? Should the format of the Code be changed? The presenters will address the process used by the working group, what the working group has accomplished to date, and then open the session up for feedback and comments/suggestions from participants. Also included will be input into the working group’s final recommendations that will be presented to the National Council for action in September, 2012.

ASPA HR would like to announce that Katharine Neill has received the 2012 scholarship!

Katharine is currently an ODU Doctoral Student in Public Administration and Urban Policy. She is also a graduate teaching assistant at ODU. Katharine aspires “to serve the public by becoming a teacher and researcher.”

The committee was very impressed with Katharine’s work experience and civic activities as well as her essay on “ My Commitment to Public Service.”
