A New Way to Look at Government: Encouraging the Next Generation to Serve
The City of Norfolk provides meaningful and educational employment opportunities to Norfolk young adults age 16 through 19 through the Norfolk Emerging Leaders (NEL) program. NEL participants not only gain valuable work experience, but also take part in work readiness and financial planning workshops, network with city employees, and participate in workshops with community leaders. Over 200 positions in over 20 city departments help students explore areas based on their career interest. Trista Pope Fayton, Norfolk Emerging Leaders Program Coordinator lead an engaging discussion on this valuable program.
