Catheryn Whitesell, the former director of the Virginia Beach Department of Budget and Management was the featured speaker at the Thursday, 11/17/2016 luncheon. Virginia Beach City Manager Dave Hansen recently appointed her to lead the new Strategy, Transparency, Innovation and Resiliency (STIR) office.
Under Ms Whitesell’s leadership, Virginia Beach has embraced data-driven government. Virginia Beach is using the Open Budget program to share revenue and expenditure data with citizens. Now, they’re launching an Open Performance program — one of the first in Virginia — to use data to improve accountability with citizens.
